About
My work is inspired by great artists such as Brancusi and Noguchi. Both have similar ethics of simplicity, purity, smoothness, and organic forms that are found in Minimalist sculptors, as well in the Constructivist method of working with materials in a “natural” way, so that the material dictates the form.
I utilize different origins and colors of marble. Typically beginning with a simple form, I cut, grind, sand and finish my stone and marble pieces with either a mat or brilliant shine. I also cast bronzes, adding various patinas to the bronze surface.
I was born in Edmonton, Alberta, and grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. At a young age, I was diagnosed with severe dyslexia. I found art to be my strength. With encouragement from my parents and teachers, I graduated from the University of British Columbia, Canada with a BEd in Art; the Sir John Cass School of Goldsmithing, London, England with a post-graduate degree; the State University of New York, New Paltz, New York, with an MFA in Gold and Silversmithing; and the California State University in Sacramento with an MEd in Special Education.
If art was my catalyst for self-expression and personal satisfaction, I also wanted to teach and make a difference in the lives of others.
